ADA NSW mentoring programme

ada-nsw-and-joeI would like to congratulate Dr Melanie Patney of the Recent Graduates Committee member with the support of our immediate past president Dr Deb Cockrell in establishing the ADAPTS (ADA NSW’s Professional Transitional Support) mentoring program.The workings of the mentoring program came in fruition during the committee meeting and feedback from many of our recent graduates members (including ourselves) about the lack of mentoring provided by some of the practices which they work for and the lack of a "one-on-one" support network where a new dentist can ask a more experienced colleague in confidence.After many months of hard work behind the scenes by Dr. Patney and supported by Dr. Cockrell, ADAPTS is finally in place to be unleashed to the world! This will allow the experienced dentists to connect with our recent graduates. Again, fostering good partnerships, collegiality and information exchange to continue the excellence in dentistry.Here is a key excerpt from the ADA NSW website:

Get involved

We are looking for 20 mentor/mentee pairs only for the pilot program. If you would like to be involved as a mentor or mentee, please see below.

Program eligibility

Mentors should:

  • have seven or more years of registration with Dental Board of Australia
  • retain membership with ADA NSW for the duration of the program
  • submit an online mentor application form
  • commit to the program for its duration
  • attend a mentoring induction, then participate in a minimum of three mentoring sessions and a program evaluation.

Mentees should:

  • be within the first seven years of registration with Dental Board of Australia
  • retain membership with ADA NSW for the duration of the program
  • submit an online mentee application form
  • commit to the program for its duration
  • attend a mentoring induction, then participate in a minimum of three mentoring sessions and a program evaluation.
